Clean and shiny Golf R32 (yet again)
I’ve spent about 4 hours cleaning today (inside and out). The sun decided to make an appearance so I couldn’t resist taking a few pics.

Really liked the second pic so I’ve given it a little tweak in Photoshop…

Premium Alloy Wheel Ideas for Golf R32
Here are a collection of some of my favourite alloys. You’ll need deep pockets if you fancy a set!

VW Golf R32 (MkV) – Entry 020
It’s not easy to find alloys for the MkV R32. They can be found but you have to look really hard. The problem I’ve encountered is that the handful that really appeal are almost always over two grand (my favourite being HRE P40’s – £3,800) which doesn’t make sense for a car worth 25k new. So I narrowed it down to wheels under £1,500 and that made things a bit easier. I needed to act swiftly as the inside edges of both front tyres were badly worn and with a new set of 19” tyres sitting in storage, I didn’t want to buy 18” replacements. On Sunday October 6th I ordered a set of sparkling new 19” BBS CH’s from PW Motorsport. They arrived from Germany four days later and were fitted by Event Mobile Tyres the following Monday. This is the second time I’ve used these guys and both times I’ve been impressed. The wheels look great and have comfortably surpassed my expectations. They’re also lighter then I had anticipated, certainly lighter than the stock items, despite being a larger diameter. As I’ve noted previously, the grip on the 19”alloys with 235/35 Michelin PS2 tyres is significantly better than the 225/40 Dunlop Sport Maxx (new vs new). Below is a comparison photo showing the tread patterns and difference in width.

After fitting, I drove to APS for a wheel alignment check and to have the “fender mod” done which basically involves removing a tab on the inside of each front arch to help eliminate rubbing. Whilst there, they informed me they had a “nearly new” Milltek Resonated Cat-back system upstairs and wondered if I’d be interested in it. After being told the price, it took me all of 30 seconds to realise I couldn’t refuse! It was all a bit of a blur really, but in a good way! The 100mm pipes fill the rear arches so much better than the stock item. They really do look fantastic protruding from my carbon fibre OSIR valance. They have a wider vocal range, giving a deeper sound on tick over yet a higher scream at full chat. It’s definitely an improvement on the stock system which is saying something considering it had bedded into a very mean and characterful sound after 14k miles. I also like that I can hear the exhaust more inside the cabin with the windows up. It’s still quiet in general driving but give it some beans and it’s superb. It just sounds racier which is great! My only gripe is that below 2,000 rpm it is a little boomy at the moment. It may reduce over time but even if it doesn’t, it’s certainly no way intrusive enough to think about removing it. I’m very pleased with this surprise bargain. I’ve managed to record my first video, it’s nothing special but it was fun to do.
Back in ‘Entry: 003’ I recorded some in gear times. I’ve been out today and completed the test again (13k miles later). Unfortunately, the only thing I can deduce from these findings is that the method used to collect this data is rubbish! You can get an idea of times but in all honesty, it’s completely inaccurate. I will revisit this at some point as the data would be valuable, especially for evaluating modifications. Next time I’ll use a video recorder to record the needles and then calculate the time on a PC. Shouting “go” and “stop” to a guy with a stop watch sitting in the passenger seat is not advised!

And finally… I’m officially broke now so it’s unlikely I’ll be doing any other spending until early next year. Below are a few pictures of the BBS/Milltek combo. The look I’m after isn’t complete yet but I’m well on my way!
Thanks for reading.

Driving the Evo Triangle in North Wales
Went for a drive in North Wales yesterday. Thought I’d try out the EVO Triangle with my brother. Great drive, lovely weather! Wheels are being fitted in an hour, then I’m shooting down to APS for a wheel alignment and the “fendor mod”. Here’s a couple of pics from yesterday.

Update: CH’s are on and they look great! I wouldn’t say my quest for the ultimate wheel is over but I’m happy the pressure’s off lol. I managed to take a pic before the batteries in the camera died…

After fitting, I drove to APS for an alignment check (all good) and whilst I was there, they forced me to buy a Milltek Exhaust!!!
Full blog write up next weekend once I’ve had chance to familiarise myself with it. Immediate thoughts are that it has a wider vocal range and full throttle with the windows up sounds ace
Can’t believe today, I had no intention of getting the Milly fitted!
19″ BBS CH Alloys for Golf R32
Wheel decision made…. 19×8 BBS CH’s have been purchased from PW Motorsport. They should be on my car Saturday with a bit of luck. I wanted to be different (and still do) but they look great on an R32 and come in the perfect fitment (which is why they’re so popular). I’m so pleased, they’ve easily surpassed my expectations. From the subtle ridge on the outer lip to the bright silver finish that seems to sparkle. They’re also lighter then I expected, definitely lighter than the CMS wheels.
It’s a bit embarrassing given the amount of pain and suffering I’ve put myself through with wheel decisions but I’m now content. After seeing them up close, I’m not sure I’ll change them, certainly not unless something REALLY special crops up. Here are some pics taken today.
